The initial idea of this album was started as sort of a test or challenge for myself. I was just wondering if I could do everything by myself, including distribution through Good Boy Records, a record label that I recently started. Originally I was going to drop only a single track but soon I changed my mind ‘cause I thought dropping a single track is not really fun and kinda meaningless to me. So I added some more tracks and ended up comprising a whole album. It took me 3 months to finish the whole process. I think I was able to do it in such a short period of time because of Covid. Literally, all I had was time, so it was easy to focus and work on the album. Thanks Covid.

I’ve got pretty basic stuff for recording but I couldn’t afford to buy a new pre-amp. I needed one that I could actually tweak some knobs for the better real-time feeling when I record. So I bought a second hand JHS Colour Box and I recorded all the bass tracks and all the tracks that use a microphone with this little white box. Also I bought a Strymon Iridium and recorded all the guitar tracks with this little black box. Actually I didn’t like it at first. ‘Cause I’d always thought that the best sound comes from real amps. But I started thinking that it would take too much time and effort if I used a real amp ‘cause I’d have to cover all the different instruments by myself as well. Using Iridium, Technically I had “9 different guitar amps” that I could easily switch and record by myself and the result was much better than I expected. The only problem was that I couldn’t hear the natural feedback sound. For drums, I used my own virtual drum kit which was made of different drum samples collected from various sources. Honestly I suck at playing drums so I think some of the fills are ridiculous or not even playable. As for the flute, I only started playing flute after Covid invaded the world. So the flute sound you hear from ‘Yummy Wrap and Spicy Noodle’ is my very first recording. The harmonica.. I can’t play harmonica but I knew someone who could. Thanks, Jojo.
